With the arrival of spring 2024, it’s the perfect moment to refresh your living space with natural aesthetics. Let’s explore springtime trends for those of us who love rustic charm and whimsy. Whether you’re a seasoned cottagecore enthusiast or just exploring the realm of natural living, these decor ideas are here to inspire a Spring filled transformation of your home!

What is Cottagecore?

Cottagecore is an aesthetic that celebrates the simplicity and beauty of rural life. I once read that those of us who enjoy this aesthetic typically grew up THE OPPOSITE WAY (in a small apartment or house with very little access to greenspace) and oh how true this is! The cottage aesthetic embraces traditional patterns, natural materials, and crafts like pottery and gardening, creating a serene, cozy home environment that feels both timeless and lived-in.

2024 Springtime Cottagecore Decor Trends

1. Eco-Chic Fabrics

Look for fabrics that are both eco-friendly and chic. Linen, organic cotton, and hemp are popular choices that blend sustainability with style, perfect for everything from drapes to upholstery. One of my favorite places to buy hemp fabric is Etsy.

2. Biophilic Design

What is biophilic design you ask? It’s a form of design that connects you closer to nature. It’s derived from the word ‘biophilia,’ which means ‘love of nature.’ Biophilic design includes natural elements into your environment through the use of natural materials, natural light, vegetation, natural landscapes, etc. Examples are indoor water features, green walls, plants, plants, and lots of plants, or a large window that looks out to outdoor greenery. I primarily buy plants from a local plant shop, but I know those are few and far between. If you can’t find a local plant shop then I would recommend Bloomscape and Etsy (yep Etsy has lots of plant sellers!). I typically try to stay away from big box stores.

3. Soft Neutrals with Earthy Accents

Soft neutrals form the base of many cottagecore palettes, accented by deep, rich earth tones such as terracotta, forest green, and mustard yellow. These hues mimic the natural elements found outdoors and bring warmth and depth to any space. I buy my terracotta pots from Etsy AGAIN. Yes, I spend way too much time on Etsy.

4. Repurposed Antiques

There’s a growing trend towards repurposing antiques in new and creative ways. An old dresser might be transformed into a bathroom vanity, or a vintage door turned into a tabletop, combining functionality with historical charm. Facebook Marketplace has been a great place to find old furniture in need of some DIY. Do an internet search of your local area for thrift and antique stores.

5. Artisanal Crafts

Artisanal and locally-sourced crafts are at the heart of cottagecore. Pottery, macrame, hand-blown glass, and other crafts not only support local artisans but also add a touch of authenticity and craftsmanship to your home. If possible buy small or local.

6. Layered Textures

Mixing and matching different textures is a trend that continues to grow. Combine rough with smooth, soft with coarse—like a wool throw on a linen sofa—to create a dynamic and inviting environment. If you’re looking for a well made wool blanket one of my favorite places is Johnson Woolen Mills.

7. Heritage Pieces

Items with a story—family heirlooms or flea market finds—are more popular than ever. They add a personal touch and historical depth to your decor, essential for achieving the genuine cottagecore look.

How to Incorporate These Trends

Begin with textiles; a new set of organic cotton sheets or hemp curtains can instantly update a room. For a bigger project, consider a green wall to bring dramatic natural beauty into your home while improving air quality.
